The Washington Eagles defeated the Atlanta Copperheads, 9-4. Left Fielder Wally Austin deserved a large share of the credit. Austin went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 6 runs and scored once for the Eagles. Washington occupies last place in the Federal Association East at 54-61.

A key moment came with no one out in the bottom of the third. That's when Austin hit a sinker from Howie Burt for a 2-run single, putting Washington up, 5-2.

"You start putting runs on the board and winning, everyone's going to get excited," said Austin.
