Washington pitcher Herman White did his part in helping his team beat the Atlanta Copperheads, 5-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. White, the winner, moves to 6-8. He threw 7.2 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 5 walks. Washington is now 53-61.

The game still hung in the balance with two out in the top of the seventh inning. White, however, wiggled out of a jam. With the bases loaded and Atlanta trailing 4-1, White retired John Moreland, who flied out.
