Jake Pearson Blanks New York, 4-0 | Jake Pearson of the Cleveland Foresters was on top of his game.
The 31-year-old tantalized the New York Imperials with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.
"He had the changeup working," New York manager Ed Ziehl said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Cleveland hurler had 7 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.
Pearson told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
Pearson has started 14 times this year, pitched 108.2 innings, fanned 70 batters and walked 33. His current record is 11 wins and 1 loss with a 2.15 ERA. | |
