Copperheads Outmuscle Philadelphia, 10-9
The Atlanta Copperheads had to overcome a big game from Philadelphia first baseman Andy Parker to leave Peachtree Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning, 10-9. Parker was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Dutch Wright picked up the win with 5 innings of work. He allowed 6 runs on 8 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 2. On the season, he is now 9-0. Picking up the save was two-time All-Star Buddy Thomas.

Al Hubbard, who finished 2nd in the FA in RBI with 97 in 1972, aided the Atlanta cause with a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the second. For the game, the second baseman was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk.

"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Hubbard.

Atlanta, at 81-28, is 30½ games up in the Federal Association East.
