| Late Rally by Sailors Locks Up 4-2 Win | Golden Gate Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the New York Imperials and San Francisco Sailors.
The San Francisco Sailors got a marvelous performance from pitcher Hank Lacey. The right-hander kept the New York offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 4-2 San Francisco victory at Golden Gate Stadium. Larry Knez, who is tied for 2nd in the CA in holds with 9, was the winner in relief. His record is now 5-3. The losing pitcher was Bob Brown.
Ernie Carter hit a 2-run triple off Bob Brown in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Sailors in front, 4-2. Carter had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said San Francisco skipper Chris Beck. "I can't complain."
By defeating New York, the 4th-place Sailors improved to 59-45.
