| Detroit Sent Home with 5-3 Loss | Los Angeles pitcher Jim Place had a large part in his team beating the Detroit Dynamos, 5-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Ron Clark recorded the save, making him 28 for 34. The first-place Suns, at 67-43, now lead their division by 8½ games.
Los Angeles shortstop Bill Perry helped the Suns go up, 2-1, in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the game tied, Perry hit a run-scoring single off Detroit pitcher Jack Williams.
"It was a good effort all around," said Perry.
