| Gothams Suffer 4-3 Setback | Atlanta beat New York at Gotham Stadium, eking out a 4-3 win in 16 innings. The win was due in large part to right fielder Earl Skains. He was 2-6 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The first-place Copperheads lifted their record to 69-39.
Atlanta used the timely hitting of Duane Carle to capture the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 16th inning to put the Copperheads on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but he made it count.
"There's a lot in this game you can't control. Just take what the game gives you. I was just doing my best to help the team win," Skains told the Atlanta News. | |
