Keystones Use Late Surge to Win | The St. Louis Pioneers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Steve Madden into a win. Instead, the Philadelphia Keystones prevailed, 5-3. Madden threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Picking up the win was William Davis. He went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. The right--hander struck out 9 and walked 0. Charlie Mills picked up the save, his 1st.
Buddy Miller drove in one run for Philadelphia. The three-time Whitney Award winner had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Steve Madden. It was his 101st RBI of the season.
"Scoring runs is scoring runs," said Philadelphia skipper Don Fox. "It's important to have different ways to do it."
Philadelphia goes to 78-51, St. Louis to 80-51. | |
