| Pioneers Rally to Eke Out Win | The St. Louis Pioneers picked up a win at Pioneer Field III, dropping the Chicago Chiefs, 2-1, in 10 innings. Tige Bowe, who finished 5th in the FA in wins with 18 last year, was the difference-maker. St. Louis reliever Roy McDonald picked up the win, upping his record to 4-10. Norm Sutherland took the loss. St. Louis, at 49-61, occupies last place in the Federal Association West.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the tenth, an error by the Chiefs allowed the Pioneers to score the winning run.
Bowe called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity." | |
