| Clippers Losing Streak at 5 After Extra-Inning Loss to Gothams | The New York Gothams had to overcome a fine effort from Baltimore pitcher Johnny Hugot to win, 2-1, in 13 innings at Patapsco Field. Hugot went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Jim Walton snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. Stan Boone suffered the loss. Picking up the save was 24-year old right-handed pitcher George Libby.
New York used the timely hitting of Dutch Eckelberry to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Gothams on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
During his postgame press conference, Gothams manager Charlie Foley told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
Baltimore's current losing streak has reached 5 games. | |
