| Downward Spiral Continues for San Francisco | The Kansas City Mavericks picked up a win at Mavericks Stadium, knocking off the San Francisco Sailors, 5-4. Starting pitcher Cal Newman was a big reason why. Newman, now 4-10, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 2, walking 0, and allowing 3 runs. The 5th-place Sailors have lost 8 consecutive games.
Kansas City took a 3-2 lead on Louis Nobles's 13th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Nobles hit in the bottom of the seventh, left San Francisco pitcher Eddie Morrison visibly frustrated.
"Been a rough stretch for us," said San Francisco manager Bob Harris. | |
