| Minutemen Capture Close Win | Boston beat Washington at Minuteman Stadium, escaping with a 4-3 win in 10 innings. The win in large part was due to right fielder Jim Morton. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Boston reliever Freddy Bradshaw was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Don Maguire. The Minutemen improved their record to 59-48 with the win over Washington.
Batting in the bottom of the tenth, top prospect Willie Stephens had a real shot to win the game. Washington pitcher Don Maguire was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Stephens hit a run-scoring single. The Minutemen had a walk-off triumph.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Washington skipper Joe D'Aprile. | |
