The St. Louis Pioneers scooped up a win at Pioneer Field III, dumping the Philadelphia Keystones, 2-1. Frenchy Mack, who is tied for 2nd in the FA with a 1.16 WHIP, was essential to his team's success. Mack, now 6-7, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The win elevated the Pioneers to 79-50.

Had Steve Schultz not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Schultz hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Pioneers.

"We're in for a photo finish, I think," said Mack. "Time to play our best ball."
