Gothams Suffer One-Run Loss at Washington
The Washington Eagles and New York Gothams played an exciting game.

The Washington Eagles overcame a pretty good performance by New York shortstop Sam Hamilton, beating the Gothams, 4-3, at Columbia Stadium. Hamilton was 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Don Eddy earned the save for Washington, his 3rd.

Wes Conner had a big run-scoring double for the Eagles in the bottom of the third inning. With Washington leading 3-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 28-year old right-handed pitcher Ray Hooley and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 4-1.

"Both teams played hard," said Washington manager Joe D'Aprile.

Washington is now 41-64, New York 49-57.
