Downbound Chiefs Lose 8th Straight | The Pittsburgh Miners defeated the Chicago Chiefs, 8-6, at Fitzpatrick Park. Leading the charge for Pittsburgh was center fielder Mike Whisman. He hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5. The win belonged to George Kollock in relief. His record improves to 6-5. Tom Fisher took the loss for Chicago. The win puts the Miners at 55-73, while the Chiefs drop to 61-66.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Pittsburgh trailing 6-5, Whisman jumped on a changeup from former first round draft pick Tom Fisher and hit a 3-run home run to left-center. With one swing, the Miners had a walk-off win.
"When you're losing, the game looks more difficult to play than it is," said Chicago manager Dutch Becker. | |
