| Wolves Absorb 8-2 Home Loss | The Milwaukee Arrows knocked off the Toronto Wolves, 8-2, in Continental Association action at Dominion Stadium. Milwaukee pitcher and Youngstown, Ohio, native Mel Maddox had an outstanding performance. Maddox yielded 2 runs over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. His record improves to 7-5. Milwaukee goes to 51-52, Toronto to 44-59.
Paul Burkley had a big 2-run double for the Arrows in the top of the first inning. With Milwaukee leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from three-time All-Star Manny Espinosa and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 18th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Arrows ahead, 3-0.
"They just got us," said Toronto manager Carl Evans, "and that's all I can say." | |
