| Humphreys Struts Stuff in Win Over Toronto | The Toronto Beavers manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Detroit Lancers. The Beavers were overpowered by Detroit starter John Humphreys, who hurled his club to victory, 2-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Máximo Rios said.
Over 9 innings, Humphreys blanked Toronto on 6 hits with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Humphreys said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Checking out his stats for the season, Humphreys has registered 5 wins and 7 losses in 13 starts, posted a 1.87 ERA, and struck out 39 batters in 115.2 innings. | | |  | | |
