The home crowd was treated to a thrilling, walk-off win.

The Washington Eagles wiggled past the New York Gothams, 4-3, at Columbia Stadium. The win was highlighted by the performance of Washington pitcher Jim Stewart. The win went to Doc Lindley in relief, making him now 1-0. Herb Isom took the loss for New York.

Washington got a knockout punch from Joe Cantrell. The left fielder hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Joe D'Aprile.

New York now has a record of 2-2.
