| Sailors Score Late to Win, 5-4 | The Chicago Cougars got a sterling performance from pitcher Hal Adams, but the San Francisco Sailors still prevailed, 5-4. Adams threw 8.2 innings of 5-hit ball. San Francisco reliever Ted Ferguson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Jim Norris absorbed the loss. San Francisco's record now stands at 47-55, placing them 5th in the Continental Association West.
San Francisco used a clutch hit from Eddie Sargent to snatch the win. The second baseman belted a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Sailors ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit, but it was huge.
"We found a way to get it done," Sargent said. | |
