Mavericks Drop Close One Late
The Cleveland Foresters clipped the Kansas City Mavericks, 6-5, in 10 innings at Forester Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Cleveland pitcher and New Orleans, Louisiana, native Alex Rutherford. Cleveland reliever Bob V James was the winner. His record is now 3-5. Van Taylor took the loss. The first-place Foresters, at 53-45, now lead their division by 2½ games.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Cleveland pinch hitter Steve Keen, facing Van Taylor, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Foresters the 6-5 win.

"It's great when the crowd goes berserk," Keen said.
