| Eagles Beaten, 7-5, by Philadelphia | A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Philadelphia Keystones and Washington Eagles.
The Philadelphia Keystones knocked off the Washington Eagles, 7-5, at Columbia Stadium. Leon Stapleton was a big reason Philadelphia won. The third baseman went 2-3 with a triple and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Doc Carver, who led the FA in wins with 18 in 1969, was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.
The game turned with one out in the top of the fourth. That's when Stapleton hit a 2-run triple off Sam Rodgers. It propelled the Keystones into the lead, 3-1.
"Winning is not something we take for granted," Stapleton said.
The loss makes Washington 49-51. | |
