Though he had a stellar game, Jim Wise could not prevent his team, the Boston Minutemen, from losing, 7-6, to the Minneapolis Millers. Wise went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 4 RBI. Minneapolis starter Van Taylor was credited with the win after throwing 117 pitches over 5 innings. His record now stands at 1-1. Ben Baird notched his 15th save in 22 chances.

Tied up with the Minutemen in the top of the fourth inning, the Millers got a boost from shortstop Bob Vernon. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Vernon saw a 0-1 slider from Hank Springer and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Minneapolis on top, 2-1.

"The most important thing is that we won," Vernon said.

Minneapolis is now 43-52. Boston is 55-42.
