St. Louis got a terrific performance from pitcher Harry Anderson, but it wasn't enough to beat the Baltimore Clippers. Baltimore won the Pioneer Field III contest, 6-3. Anderson threw 8.1 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. By defeating St. Louis, the second-place Clippers improved to 45-49.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Clay Roberts? The 27-year old second baseman Roberts stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Baltimore up, 4-3. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.

"I was seeing the ball well tonight," said Roberts.
