| Detroit Tacks 9-3 Loss on Philadelphia | Not everyone stuck through the 15-minute rain delay, but those who did went home happy.
The Detroit Dynamos topped the Philadelphia Keystones, 9-3, in Federal Association action at Thompson Field. The standout performance belonged to Detroit pitcher and Brooklyn, New York, native Joe Jones. In 6.2 innings, Jones surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run.
Melvin Williams was 1 for 3 with a double and was hit by a pitch for Detroit. The 27-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring hit-by-pitch off Billy Hasson. It was his 32nd RBI of the season.
Said Detroit manager Roger Cleaves: "We squared some balls up."
The win gives Detroit a season record of 51-43. | |
