No one was more impactful than Howdy Oakes in the 9-4 Washington win over Houston. Oakes, who finished 4th in the FA in batting average with .308 in 1965, was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. The 5th-place Eagles now have a record of 48-48.

In the bottom of the 4th, Washington took the lead on a 2-run single by George Fox. At the time, the Eagles were trailing 1-0, but Fox's hit with two outs against Houston pitcher Johnny Blackburn put them in front, 2-1.
