| Copperheads Top Millers, 4-3 | Minneapolis got a terrific performance from pitcher Jack Turner, but it wasn't enough to beat the Atlanta Copperheads. Atlanta won the Peachtree Stadium contest, 4-3. Turner threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Atlanta reliever Buddy Thomas picked up the win, raising his record to 4-7. Joe Pratt was tagged with the loss. The first-place Copperheads go to 59-35.
The knockout blow came in the bottom of the tenth inning. That's when shortstop John Newton stepped to the plate with a runner on 3rd and hit a run-scoring single, to win the ballgame.
"The crowd went wild," Newton said. | |
