| Gothams Flatten Dynamos, 11-1 | New York Gothams starter Joe Nelson turned in a top-notch performance against the Detroit Dynamos at Thompson Field. The result was a win for the Gothams, 11-1. Nelson, now 7-9, was the winner. In 8.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The Gothams improved their record to 41-51 by beating Detroit.
Mark Boyd had a big grand slam home run for the Gothams in the top of the seventh inning. With New York leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a splitter from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Richard Elk and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Gothams on top, 7-0.
"What a debacle," groaned Detroit manager Roger Cleaves in postgame remarks. | |
