Imperials Stymie San Francisco, Take 3-1 Win
Starting pitcher Howie Weston gave the New York Imperials a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the San Francisco Sailors, 3-1, at Dyckman Stadium. In 7 innings, Weston surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Ed Cooper collected his 20th save.

Had Jake Poole not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Poole hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Imperials.

"Howie pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said New York manager Jim Abernathy.

With the win, the Imperials hiked their record to 48-42.
