| Foresters Pull Out Late-Game Win, 4-3 | The Cleveland Foresters picked up a win at Golden Gate Stadium, downing the San Francisco Sailors, 4-3. On the mound for Cleveland was right-hander Dick Couture, who played a pivotal role in the win. Couture yielded 3 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 6-5. Earning his 9th save of the year was Bob V James.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Vern Schneider came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing San Francisco pitcher Bert Alexander, he hit a first pitch slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cleveland on top, 4-3.
"I really like what we did out there today," Schneider said after the game.
Cleveland is third in the Continental Association East with a record of 42-46. | |
