Suns Use Late Score to Top Eagles, 3-2
The Los Angeles Suns did just enough to sneak past the Washington Eagles, 3-2, at Columbia Stadium. Los Angeles pitcher Jim Place, in particular, had a standout performance. Ron Clark, who finished 2nd in the FA in saves with 25 last year, earned the save for Los Angeles. Los Angeles improves to 53-36 with the win. They lead their division by 5½ games.

Los Angeles used a timely hit from Ed Mooney to get the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Suns ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said Washington manager Joe D'Aprile.
