Miners Handed 4-1 Loss by New York | New York Gothams pitcher Red Blanchard was in top form, leading his team past the Pittsburgh Miners, 4-1. The winning pitcher was Blanchard, now 1-1. He tossed 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 4. Bill Howard wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.
New York center fielder Otto Pilkerton contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 6th hit of the season and put the Gothams ahead, 2-1.
"We played hard and won," said Blanchard. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
