| Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Mavericks | Toronto wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Ray Eddy, falling to the Kansas City Mavericks, 4-3. Eddy threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Kansas City pitcher Charlie Rude got the win. He's now 1-0. Ray Smith was tagged with the loss. Kansas City now sports a record of 41-47.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 25-year old second baseman Bob Howard had a chance to be the hero. Toronto pitcher Ray Smith wanted to foil that plan. But with no outs, Howard drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Mavericks had themselves a thrilling win.
"We're in a rut," said Toronto manager Carl Evans. | |
