| Washington Beaten, 7-4, by St. Louis | The St. Louis Pioneers beat the Washington Eagles, 7-4, at Columbia Stadium. John Richards went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2. The 33-year old first baseman was a menace to Washington all day. Johnny Taylor earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Roy McDonald earned his 21st save in 25 chances.
St. Louis relied on the hitting of Tom Spruill to pick up the win. The shortstop ripped a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pioneers on top, 7-4. For the game, Spruill had 1 triple and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said St. Louis manager Babe Johnson.
Today's win puts St. Louis at 41-48, while Washington falls to 32-53. | |
