The performance of John Edwards proved critical in helping Houston beat Philadelphia, 7-5. The Comets right fielder went 2 for 3 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Johnny Blackburn was the winner. He's now 8-5. The loser was two-time All-Star James Powers. Houston goes to 45-41, Philadelphia to 39-45.

With Houston leading 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Edwards hit a cutter from George Britton for a 2-run home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Comets ahead, 7-2.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Houston manager Glenn Carney.
