| Sailors Edged by Saints, 3-2 | The San Francisco Sailors could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jim Teal into a win. Instead, the Montreal Saints prevailed, 3-2, in 10 innings. Teal threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Reliever Bob Nelson picked up the win. His record improves to 4-4. Bert Alexander, the 18th overall pick in the 1962 draft, took the loss. Montreal is 35-48 and San Francisco, with the loss, 39-49.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the tenth, an error by the Sailors allowed the Saints to score the winning run.
Smith told a Montreal Gazette reporter that he felt "ecstatic" after the win.
