New York Sends Chicago Packing with 7-3 Loss
The home team gave the crowd at Bigsby Oval II something to cheer about.

The New York Gothams racked up a win at Bigsby Oval II, bumping off the Chicago Chiefs, 7-3. Tom Gift, who started for New York, pitched effectively for his team. The winner was Gift. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Jack Beckwith.

Ray Payne had a big bases-clearing double for the Gothams in the bottom of the sixth inning. With New York leading 4-3 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Jack Beckwith, who finished 2nd in the FL in wins with 22 in 1908, and swatted a double to right. It was his 22nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Gothams ahead, 7-3.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Gift said after the game.

The first-place Gothams, at 87-63, lead the Federal League by 6½ games.
