| Phipps Now 12-7 After Subduing Beacons | Charlie Phipps, who finished 5th in the UL in wins with 19 in 1912, was terrific for the Pittsburgh Mechanics in his team's 5-0 triumph over the Boston Beacons. His performance earned Phipps rave reviews. The Beacons, now 77-72, have lost 4 in a row.
Pittsburgh starter Charlie Phipps was exceptional. The 6-foot-0 left-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits over 8.2 innings of work.
"We're in a little funk right now and we've just got to get ourselves out of it," said Boston manager John Milton. | | | | | |
