| Cannons Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Beacons, 3-2 | Boston got a big-time effort from pitcher Fred Wilson, but it wasn't enough to keep the Baltimore Cannons from winning the game, 3-2. Wilson threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Baltimore is now 18-26, while Boston is 28-15.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Baltimore right fielder Arnold Britton, facing John Hicks, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Cannons the 3-2 win.
"The ending was a real humdinger," Britton told reporters after the game.
