| Gustafson 5-for-7 for New York | Russ Gustafson was a tough out and went 5-for-7 in a fine hitting display, but the Toronto Beavers managed to overcome his performance and top the New York Stars, 5-4.
"I got my pitches and I connected," Gustafson said. "They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody, and some days they fall in. And some days you lose, no matter how well you play."
On this occasion, Gustafson played well enough to get his name in the record books. Russ Gustafson flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, walked in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th, grounded out in the 11th, singled in the 12th, doubled in the 14th, walked in the 17th and singled in the 20th.
On the year, Gustafson is hitting .226 with 48 hits, no home runs, 29 RBIs, .304 OBP and has scored 16 runs. | |
