| Stars Tagged with 2-1 Loss | The Detroit Lancers got a magnificent effort from pitcher Justin Chipman, who kept New York hitters in check en route to a 2-1 Lancers win at Thompson Field. Otis Gillespie earned his 5th save, after closing out the game. The Lancers sport a record of 16-25.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Lancers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when right fielder Jim Linn hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Ray Cox and made the score 2-0, Lancers. Linn went 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk.
"It'd be nice to win by four or five runs," Linn said, "instead of holding our breath the whole game."
