| Kansas City Upended by Seattle, 5-1 | The Seattle Kings rode a solid performance from 38-year-old starting pitcher Charlie Rushing to a win, beating the Kansas City Mavericks, 5-1, at Seattle Municipal Stadium. Rushing, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The loss drops the Mavericks to 1-2.
Ben Baker had a big 2-run double for the Kings in the bottom of the third inning. With Seattle leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from 38-year old right-handed pitcher Chuck Crea and swatted a double to center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Kings ahead, 5-1.
Rushing said his team "played with focus."
