The Pittsburgh Miners locked up a win at Fitzpatrick Park, knocking off the Boston Minutemen, 9-5. On the mound for Pittsburgh was left-hander Mike Blackham. He played a major role in the triumph. With the win, the Miners improved to 38-30.

Mike Whisman had a big 2-run double for the Miners in the bottom of the third inning. With Pittsburgh leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Otey Stevens, who is tied for 2nd in the FA in holds with 4, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Miners ahead, 4-1.

"I still think this team can play even better," Whisman told the Pittsburgh Times.
