Boston and Chicago played a hard-fought contest.

In a low-scoring game between the Boston Minutemen and the Chicago Chiefs, pitcher Richie Thornton was masterful on the mound. The Boston left-hander spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. Picking up the save was 28-year old left-handed pitcher Bud Shireman.

Boston center fielder Frank Kirouac contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 22nd hit of the season and put the Minutemen ahead, 2-0.

"We leaned on our pitching tonight," Thornton said.

With the loss, Chicago is 11-19.
