| Slumping Pioneers Lose 6th Straight | The Houston Comets topped the St. Louis Pioneers, 5-4, with youngster Stan Francis playing a key role. Francis went 4-4 with a triple, 2 doubles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Comets in the win. The Pioneers, at 7-22, have stumbled out of the gate.
The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Houston trailing 4-3, Francis hit a fastball from Roy McDonald for a 2-run double. In the blink of an eye, the Comets had a walk-off win.
"This wasn't a good win," said Francis. "It was a great win."
