Millers Win at Detroit, 5-4 | Charlie Haynes was instrumental in his team's 5-4 triumph over the Detroit Dynamos. The shortstop went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs for the Minneapolis Millers. The winning pitcher was 31-year old right-handed pitcher Joe McDowell. He tossed 104 pitches over 7.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. Bobby Crooks picked up the save, his 1st.
Minneapolis catcher Ernie Frost contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 9th hit of the season and put the Millers ahead, 3-1.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Haynes.
Minneapolis is off to a sluggish start, getting just their 3rd win in 31 games. | |
