| Philadelphia Wins, Topping New York, 5-2 | Though the conditions were not ideal, the Philadelphia Keystones and New York Gothams came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
Philadelphia starter Ray Smith pitched effectively against the New York Gothams at Broad Street Park. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-2. Smith, now 8-5, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 1, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs.
Philadelphia took a 4-2 lead on Fred Hamm's 4th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Hamm hit in the bottom of the seventh, left New York pitcher Glenn Lantz visibly frustrated.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Philadelphia skipper Dusty Morris.
With the win over New York, the Keystones improved to 73-60. | | | | | |
