The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves.

Washington got a valiant performance from pitcher Otto Caudill, but it wasn't enough to beat the Chicago Chiefs. Chicago won the game, 5-4. Caudill threw 7.2 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. The winner was Jack Thomas in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Foster Sherman took the loss.

The Chiefs beat the Eagles in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Al Padgett produced in the bottom of the eighth. Batting against Sherman, Padgett gave his team the lead, 5-4, when he hit a 2-run single.

"We take it day by day here," said Padgett, "and today was a good one for us."

With the win, the Chiefs have a record of 35-29.
