| Comets Held in Check by Eagles, Lose, 5-1 | Washington right-hander Herman White pitched his team to victory over the Houston Comets at Dalton Domed Stadium. The final score was 5-1. Washington is off to a sluggish start, getting just their 10th win in 27 games.
Joe Cantrell had a big 2-run double for the Eagles in the top of the third inning. With Washington leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a forkball from George Roy, who finished 3rd in the FA in ERA with 2.57 in 1971, and swatted a double to right. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eagles ahead, 5-0.
"It's a long season," said Cantrell. "We'll keep working to improve."
