| Super Swinger -- Williams Slams 5 Hits | A jubilant Art Williams joined the postgame press conference at Cocker Park to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Pittsburgh Mechanics pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Chicago Blues first baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 4-3 Blues win.
"He made it look easy," said Jasper Bonner, manager of the Mechanics. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Art Williams singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 11th.
So far this year, Williams is batting .307 with 1 home run, 17 RBIs and 21 runs scored. | |
