| Mechanics Over Lancers, 4-2 | Pittsburgh Mechanics starter Robert Mitchell turned in a top-notch performance against the Detroit Lancers at Thompson Field. The result was a win for the Mechanics, 4-2. The winner was Mitchell. He threw 8.1 innings of 7-hit ball. The loser was Andy McCay. The Mechanics improved their record to 61-62 with the win over Detroit.
The Mechanics benefited from a costly error in the top of the fifth. With Mike Jackson at bat and Pittsburgh leading 1-0, the Detroit miscue allowed Pittsburgh to plate 1 and take the lead, 2-0.
"Robert was dictating to their hitters," said Pittsburgh manager Jim Clement.
