| Pioneers Turn Back Suns, 5-4 | The St. Louis Pioneers did just enough to sneak past the Los Angeles Suns, 5-4, at Pioneer Field III. St. Louis pitcher Frenchy Mack, in particular, had a standout performance. St. Louis is now 42-19, 6½ games up in the Federal Association.
St. Louis center fielder Bill Bather contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 66th hit of the season and put the Pioneers ahead, 3-0.
"I still think this team can play even better," Mack told the St. Louis Daily.
